' St Margaret Clitherow ' - Keyworth
|
Keyworth
Parish
was formerly one of the outlying areas of the Parish of
the Holy Spirit West Bridgford; and a Mass centre was first opened in
September 1962 in the British Legion Club. Later that year we moved to
the Anglican Church Hall and stayed there until the 'Mary Ward'
Catholic teacher training college was opened in 1969. The college
chapel was the focal point of our Parish for eight years until the
college closed in 1977. The
Methodist community of Keyworth then, very generously,
offered us a home for the celebration of Mass for the following 7
years, until the church of St Margaret Clitherow was completed in 1984.
Following the Diocesan reorganisation in 2005, the Parishes of Keyworth
and East Leake were linked, and now enjoy a new working relationship.

'Our Lady of the Angels' - East Leake |
In
the early Fifties, a small group of 12 Catholics used to make the
journey to
Loughborough for Mass until arrangements were made for a priest to come
to East
Leake to celebrate Sunday Mass. Mass was first celbrated in a room in
the Old Post Office, and later in the
Village Hall.
It was one parishioner, Mary Clarke, who persuaded
local
businessman - Captain Roulstone - to donate the land so that
'Our Lady of
the
Angels' could finally be built. There
have been times when the church was
without a
priest and the congregation depended on a visiting priest, but the
parishioners
stood fast,
welcoming and supporting the many priests who came to minister to them.
Organisations
and groups work well together, children receive instruction for the
Sacraments
and there are very good links with the other Christian churches in East
Leake. People
have come to Mass
at 'Our
Lady's' throughout the past years from as
many as eighteen villages. 'Our Lady of the Angel's celebrated
its Golden Jubilee in 2004, and the celebrations were attended by some
of the original 12 parishioners.
From September 2005 Our Lady’s has been linked with St.
Margaret Clitherow in
Keyworth; with Father John Kyne and Deacon Peter
Swarbrick
supporting both churches. Together with St Margaret's we look forward
to the
next fifty years
